Finland has a total area of 338,424 km² (130,596 sq mi) and is one of the most thinly populated countries in Europe as only 5,429,894 people are living there. Capital and largest city is Helsinki. The official languages are Finnish and Swedish. The Finnish call their own country “Suomi” by the way. We would like to learn something about Finland and its habits, therefore we asked Aleksander some questions: How does a typical first day at primary school look like in Finland? There are no special habits or anything, so I guess that it is same as anywhere else. How do the children go to school? Most of the kids take the bus. What are typical hobbies for Finnish children? The boys normally play ice hockey or soccer, the girls do live figure skating and gymnastics. What is typical Finnish food tourists should try? „Lihapullat ja muussi“ (meatballs and mash potatoes). The Finnish love it and it is kind of our national dish. It is definitely worth trying it! What do you like most about Finland? Our beautiful winters are amazing. Is there anything everybody should have seen in Finland? Lapland is a wonderful region. In Finland we even have a nickname for it: Lappi :) How much time does an average Finn spend in a sauna? I would say that we spend some hours a week there – prejudice confirmed. Is there anything about Finnland/the Finns no one knows and we would be surprised by? Did you know that Nokia, Rovio and Supercell are finish companies? I think everybody knows Nokia, but hardly nobody knows that it is from Finland. Rovio did invent the game “Angry Birds” and Supercell does also make games – “Clash of Clans” for example. Thank you very much Aleksander! Koululureppu valmiina hep!
