All ergobags are water-resistant. The outer fabrics of our backpacks meet the standard for waterproof fabrics, which is a 1,300 mm water column. We always use a 1,500mm water column in order to take production fluctuations into account. Why are our backpacks not waterproof? Because we don't use sealed zippers and seams.
All new rain covers no longer have a clip for attaching to the rain cover compartment, as the compartment will be omitted as of the 2025 collection. Do you have an older model with a rain cover compartment on the lid and want to attach the rain cover? Then pay attention to the feature description.
Children do not only carry their schoolbags on sunny days. They have to go to school even when it rains or snows.
Most high-quality backpacks and school backpacks are already highly water-repellent. They must be able to withstand a light drizzle or a short downpour without the contents of the backpack getting wet. However, in the event of heavy rain or heavy snowfall, the material of the backpack, made of synthetic fibres, may get soaked and there is a risk that the notebooks, books and other school accessories will get wet. The pages of books and exercise books may curl unpleasantly and writing may be blurred. If the books were provided by the school, you will even have to replace them if they are badly damaged. If the notebooks are damaged, the child may have to rewrite some things that are no longer legible due to rain or dampness. Wet school materials lead to great annoyance. Better to take precautions. To prevent moisture from penetrating the surface of the backpack, simply use a backpack rain cover. In this way, the backpack is 100 per cent water-repellent.
It's best to buy the rain cover when you buy the backpack. That way you can also try out whether the size fits well. Because that is important. Backpack rain covers usually have an elasticated drawstring. If you pull the rain cover over the school bag, it is fastened with this elastic band. The fastening is so simple that even younger children can easily use a rain cover themselves. A rain cover that is too small cannot be pulled over the rucksack. If the rain cover is too large, it can slip and moisture can penetrate the uncovered areas. There is also a risk of the protective cover slipping off completely and falling down unnoticed. A strong gust of wind could also blow the rain cover off the rucksack. Many brand manufacturers have their own rain covers, the size of which fits all their products. Otherwise you can simply measure the school rucksack and compare it with the size of the rain cover. Also check how many litres the backpack can hold. You can also compare this litre figure with the dimensions of the rain cover.
Many rain covers are neon coloured and contain reflective elements. Especially when it is raining or snowing, it is relatively dark. Good visibility is very important on these days. A cover for the school bag can make a decisive contribution to drivers being able to see the schoolchild from a distance. A rain cover for the rucksack can be folded up very small and fits into a small side pocket of the school rucksack. However, remind your children that a wet rain cover should first be dry before it is stowed away again. Because it is made of synthetic fibres, it will not dry if it is folded up small and, in the worst case, can even become mouldy.
